 Για τον εορτασμό της 50ης επετείου από την επιστροφή του Bob Dylan σε περιοδείες, η Panik Records / Sony Music ανακοίνωσαν την κυκλοφορία του "The 1974 Live Recordings", το οποίο αναμένεται να είναι διαθέσιμο από την Παρασκευή 20  Σεπτεμβρίου. Αποτελούμενη από τις ηχογραφήσεις όλων των συναυλιών του  Bob Dylan με τους The Band, το 1974, η συλλογή θα διατίθεται σε πολυτελές box set των 27 CD. Το "The 1974 Live Recordings" αποτελείται από 417 ακυκλοφόρητα live tracks του Bob Dylan – μεταξύ των οποίων και 133 νέα mix 16 τραγουδιών από κασέτα – και θα προσφέρει στους θαυμαστές του ένθετες σημειώσεις από τη δημοσιογράφο και κριτικό, Elizabeth Nelson.

Μαζί με το "The 1974 Live Recordings", ανακοινώθηκε και η κυκλοφορία του "The 1974 Live Recordings - The Missing Songs From Before the Flood", ενός σετ 3-LP / 1 x 7-inch, το οποίο αποτελείται από τις ίδιες ηχογραφήσεις και περιλαμβάνει ειδικά επιλεγμένες version κάθε τραγουδιού που δεν συμπεριλήφθηκαν στο αρχικό live album του 1974, αποκλειστικά σε έγχρωμο βινύλιο.

Η περιοδεία του Bob Dylan το 1974 αποτέλεσε την πρώτη live περιοδεία του καλλιτέχνη μετά από οκτώ χρόνια, η οποία και τον επανένωσε με τους The Band, συγκρότημα που είχε γίνει ήδη ευρέως γνωστό μέσω των εμφανίσεών του με τον καλλιτέχνη. O Bob Dylan με τους The Band πραγματοποίησαν 30 συναυλίες σε 42 ημέρες μπροστά σε ένα κοινό 18.500 ατόμων κατά μέσο όρο, κάτι που συνέβαλε να τεθούν νέα πρότυπα για τις ροκ συναυλίες. Και μπροστά σε αυτά τα πλήθη, μετέφεραν μια ενέργεια που ο Ben Fong-Torres από το περιοδικό "Rolling Stone" περιέγραψε ως "τρελή και μοναδική... εξαιρετική από μόνη της", ενώ ο κριτικός μουσικής, Robert Christgau, την χαρακτήρισε ως την επιστροφή του Bob Dylan στα παλιά του τραγούδια με έναν άκρως δυναμικό τρόπο.

Στην περιοδεία του '74, η οποία ξεκίνησε στις 3 Ιανουαρίου, στο Στάδιο του Σικάγο – το μεγαλύτερο κλειστό στάδιο στον κόσμο εκείνη την εποχή – ακούστηκαν δυναμικές επανεκτελέσεις τραγουδιών σχεδόν άγνωστων για το κοινό τότε, όπως το "Hero Blues", "Ballad Of Hollis Brown", "Song to Woody" ή και το "Nobody ‘Cept You"  από το album "Planet Waves​​", τραγούδια στο άκουσμα των οποίων το κοινό ανταποκρίθηκε απρόσμενα θετικά. "Αυτό που συνέβη απόψε στο Σικάγο, μας καθησύχασε πάρα πολύ" τονίζει ο Robbie Robertson από τους The Band, καθώς θυμάται πόσο τους αποδοκίμασε το κοινό στην Ευρώπη στην προηγούμενη περιοδεία τους.

Έκτοτε, οι The Band έχουν κυκλοφορήσει έξι LP, έχουν παίξει στο Woodstock και σε άλλες διάσημες σκηνές και έχουν ηχογραφήσει μια σειρά ιστορικών κυκλοφοριών με τον Bob Dylan - από το "The Basement Tapes" μέχρι και το "Planet Waves". To "The 1974 Live Recordings" αποτελείται από νέες μίξεις των original tapes του Bob Dylan σε digital μορφή, ειδικά μιξαρισμένες για αυτή τη συλλογή.
